Overrunning Alternator Clutch Pulley Diagnostics, to check rotation work!

How to check Overrunning alternator pulley condition and work performance?

To check the condition of the alternator freewheel pulley, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Hold the inner ring with the thumb and index finger of one hand.

  1. Put your index finger and thumb together on the outer ring.

  1. Rotate the outer ring along the alternator drive way while holding the inner ring in place. If the freewheel is working properly, the outer ring will not move. If the outer ring moves, the alternator clutch pulley needs to be replaced.

  1. Turn the outer ring against the direction of the alternator drive while holding the inner ring in place. You may notice a little resistance. If the part is working properly, the outer ring can move with slight resistance and the outer ring still rotates smoothly. If not, the flywheel alternator clutch pulley needs to be replaced.

  1. Observe the running test. You should not feel any grabbing, vibration or hear any noise when the inner one rotates. It should run smoothly, as if it is not there. If you twist the pulley in both directions and do not observe freewheeling in either direction, your clutch is locked and no longer functional.

If the step 3 or 4 is not satisfactory, the OAP alternator pulley (La polea libre del alternador) is not working properly, so we must replace the old with a new one. Even so, preventive maintenance is recommended for this pulley.

When purchasing this replacement part, we often overlook the difference between the alternator overrunning pulley and the ordinary tensioner pulley. The diameter, length and internal components of the alternator pulley are designed for specific applications. GXOAP’s self-designed clutch overrunning pulley is completely innovated and developed in accordance with the original product, and is manufactured and produced according to OEM requirements to continuously improve its own product competitiveness.
